KABAR, 11 February, 2011. Today, the Prime-minister of Kyrgyzstan A. Atambaev met with the Resident Coordinator of the UN system in the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Neal Walker. In his welcoming speech, the Head of the government thanked the United Nations in the person of Mr. Neal Walker for support of Kyrgyzstan in difficult time for the country and expressed a confidence that cooperation with this dignified international organization would be continued.
In response, Mr. Neal Walker stressed out that during tragic June events in the south of the republic, only the United Nations applied to the world community with flash appeal to provide humanitarian and financial aid to the suffered population of the oblasts in order to eliminate consequences of the interethnic clashes. At that time decision was made to allocate 60 million US dollars to Kyrgyzstan for these purposes. The UN Assistance Programme provided to our country for recovery of Osh and Jalalabad cities will be completed in June this year.
During this time, tremendous work has being carried out on reconstruction of destroyed social-cultural objects, infrastructure, constriction of the housing; food aid has being provided. But the United Nations do not terminate cooperation in this area and continue to provide support in recovery of the south of the republic, - he mentioned (M.Alymbekov).
